Time: 9.30-14:00

Venue: SOS Z-21

Instructor: Dr. Scott D. Haddow

Bioarchaeology is the scientific study of human remains from archaeological contexts. Skeletal remains are unique among archaeological datasets because they are the physical manifestation of cultural as well as biological processes. This biocultural approach to the study of human skeletal remains forms the basis of modern bioarchaeological research. During this one-day workshop participants will learn about the history and development of bioarchaeology and how it can inform our understanding of the past. The various subfields of bioarchaeology, including types of research questions and methodologies will be also be explored. Hands-on experience with basic ageing and sexing techniques will also be provided.
