Abstract         : Polymeric materials such as polymer brushes, hydrogelsand nanofibrous coatings on planer and curved interfaces that are amenable toward facile multi-functionalization withbiorecognition, imaging, therapeutic and targeting agents are attractive platforms for addressing many of the challenges faced in conventional diagnostics and therapy. The talk will reportour approachestoward fabrication of novel polymeric coatings, hydrogels, nanogels and nanofibers containing clickable functional groups. In particular, I willhighlight the utilization of simple, yet powerful, organic transformations to tailor polymeric materials for target applications. Examples of tailoringfunctional interfaces either through covalent or non-covalent interactions to impart particular attributes necessary for certainapplicationswill be highlighted.

Short Bio      : Amitav Sanyal is a Professor of Chemistry at Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey, where he heads a research group working in the area of novel polymeric materials for biomedical applications such as drug delivery and diagnostics. Prof. Sanyal obtained his M.S. from The Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India. He received his doctoral degree in the area of organic synthesis from Boston University, USA. After a postdoctoral stint at University of Massachusetts, Amherst, USA, he joined the Department of Chemistry at Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey. His research focuses on the design of novel polymeric coatings, hydrogels and nanofibers using various organic transformations for fabrication functional platforms.
