College of Sciences: Promotion of Burak Özbağcı and Özgür MüstecaplıoğluAuthor: ALPHAN SENNAROĞLU
It gives me a great pleasure to announce that the Board of Trustees has recently approved the promotion of Burak Özbağcı (Mathematics) and Özgür Müstecaplıoğlu (Physics) to the rank of Full Professor, effective November 12, 2012.
Prof. Burak Özbağcı completed his doctoral studies at the University of California-Irvine in 1999 and worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Michigan State University before joining our Mathematics Department in 2002. His fields of specialty include low dimensional manifolds, symplectic and contact geometry, and topology. He has received numerous prestigious awards and is the co-author of the book ‘Surgery on contact 3-manifolds and Stein surfaces’ published by Springer.
Prof. Özgür Müstecaplıoğlu completed his doctoral studies at Bilkent University and worked as a post-doctoral researcher in Georgia Institute of Technology before joining our Physics Department in 2002. He has been active in the areas of quantum optics, plasmonics, atomic physics, and Bose-Einstein condensates. He received many prestigious awards was named an ‘outstanding referee’ of the American Physical Society in 2012.
