Dear Student,

As you may already know, each semester Koç University welcomes exchange students from reputable universities around the globe, and as the Office of International Programs we are seeking individuals with strong leadership, communication and organizational skills to act as guides and resource person for students new to KU and Turkey. Spring 2021 semester, just as Fall 2020, will be online for incoming exchange students. Therefore, the mentorship program will be different to some extend compared to previous years; yet, we will need mentor students who can virtually guide and help our incomings.

Duties of the incoming exchange student mentors are:

  • To participate in every session of the Mentor Training and Orientation Days, having a short presentation during the orientation with other mentors, and leading some of the orientation sessions,
  • To provide peer-to-peer support to incoming exchange students throughout the semester regarding their academic integration and help them adapt to KU and Turkey virtually,
  • To report their interactions with mentees to the OIP Supervisor(s) by submitting Communication Logs regularly,
  • To provide administrative support to OIP, if needed,
  • To organize online social and cultural activities, as well as CV-boosting events for incoming exchange students that will engage them, and
  • To support or cover for another mentor in case of an emergency.

All applications will be considered for the mentorship program, however; preference will be given to those who;

- Can successfully demonstrate cultural sensitivity and ability to communicate with individuals with different backgrounds,

- Have a strong sense of responsibility and commitment, and

- Show leadership qualities.

Please also check other prerequisites of the program below. The candidates who cannot comply with the below schedule will not be considered for the position.

Spring 2021 (all sessions online): 

- Being available for the Mentor Training (date to be announced, however most probably the training will be held in mid-January)

- Being present at all the sessions and events during the Orientation that will run between February 8 and 11, 2021, 

- Being available for most of the social / cultural and CV-boosting events throughout the semester (as the semester will be virtual for exchange students, some activities and events may take place in the evenings or weekends).


Please note that Incoming Exchange Student Mentorship is a Work Study program, and mentors will work and be paid in line with the regulations set by OIP and the Scholarships Office. International Students who don't hold a work permit will not be able to be selected.
